RE-USE
9 November 2024–23 February 2025
Curated by: Nathalie Dewez and Catherine Bastide
Because we already live surrounded by abandoned treasures that we no longer notice, here is a series of objects, accessories, and furniture created exclusively from reused materials.
After an initial presentation of the Design RE-USE project at the contemporary art fair Art-o-Rama Marseille in August 2024, we are delighted to invite you to discover the exhibition RE-USE PART II at La Traverse, from November 9, 2024, until February 23, 2025. Among the featured artists and designers: Atelier Mare, Sybille Berger, Debby Bousrez, CapoBianco, Nathalie Dewez, Paul Emilieu Studio, Arnaud Eubelen, Lundja Medjoud, Rikkert Paauw, …
Special participation on November 8 at 5 pm by Victor Meesters from the Belgium collective Rotor: ROTOR LECTURE (with a second part: La Réserve des Arts and Raedificare). Where: Auditorium of the IMVT – Mediterranean Institute of City and Territories – Porte d’Aix 13003. More information.
Publications and editions around the world of REUSE: Clément Gaillard, Rotor, and many others…
About Nathalie Dewez
A graduate of La Cambre Visual Arts in Brussels in 2001, her design work today ranges from small objects to monumental installations, from unique pieces to industrial products. She frequently designs lighting fixtures, as well as objects, furniture, or more sculptural pieces. She also works occasionally as a lighting consultant and has taught for many years in Belgium, France, and Switzerland.
As with her participation at Art-o-Rama Marseille this summer, she again takes on the role of curator to address the highly relevant theme of reuse in design. Always concerned with material and resource economy in her own creations, she and Catherine Bastide, director of La Traverse, have selected a group of creators working with reuse in furniture and accessories.

Textile workshop by Sybille Berger using unused fabric from the Provençal textile company Les Olivades
Provençal fabrics evolve over time and are passed down through generations. The Indian textiles of the past, compared to the fabrics of Nathalie du Pasquier today, illustrate the constant renewal over time. A digital printer adds a modern touch to traditional techniques, blending craftsmanship with innovation. Textiles, whether color swatches or printing errors, are reused. This ancient technique focuses on covering cardboard boxes with fabric, once used for sewing or jewelry boxes. Often, the hinge of these boxes is also made of fabric. The workshop is for children and adults alike, where participants can cover a box with these beautiful, diverse fabrics from Les Olivades.

City Tour with Atelier Mare: “Balade des matériaux marseillais”
This tour invites you to explore and document the city through the lens of preserving its existing built heritage and the materials that make it. The tour will cover the history of Marseille through four emblematic materials: facade stones, wooden carpentry, iron railings, and terracotta roof tiles (departure from La Traverse, Endoume).
